Jumping from PSL to IPL 2025: Foreign players making the switch post India-Pakistan tension

IPL is set to resume on May 17, with PSL also restarting on the same date. Interestingly, a few foreign stars have taken this opportunity to jump ship—leaving the PSL mid-season to join the cash-rich tournament in India.

Tensions between India and Pakistan had recently reached a boiling point, forcing a temporary suspension of both the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 and the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025. Now that the situation has de-escalated, IPL is set to resume on May 17, with PSL also restarting on the same date. Contrary to earlier claims by Pakistani sources that the league would shift to the UAE, matches will now take place in Rawalpindi and Lahore.

The sudden halt left many foreign players uncertain about their participation. While several overseas cricketers have returned to rejoin their IPL squads, the same cannot be said for PSL teams, many of whom are still waiting on players' availability. Interestingly, a few foreign stars have taken this opportunity to jump ship—leaving the PSL mid-season to join the cash-rich tournament in India.

Corbin Bosch

From: Peshawar Zalmi (PSL) — To: Mumbai Indians (IPL)

Replaced: Lizaad Williams

The South African all-rounder chose to withdraw from the PSL ahead of the season to sign with Mumbai Indians (MI), attracted by the long-term potential of MI's international franchise network. However, this move did not sit well with PSL, which saw Bosch issue a public apology. Since joining MI, he has played 3 games, scored 47 runs at a brisk strike rate of 146.87, and picked up 1 wicket across 2 innings.

Mitchell Owen

From: Peshawar Zalmi (PSL) — To: Punjab Kings (IPL)

Replaced: Glenn Maxwell

The 23-year-old Australian was brought in by Punjab Kings (PBKS) as a replacement for the injured Glenn Maxwell. Though he didn't join the squad right away,he is set to link up with the team after the tournament resumes. However, prior to joining the IPL, he featured in 8 matches for Peshawar Zalmi, scoring 102 runs at a fiery strike rate of 192.45 and picking up 2 wickets.

Kyle Jamieson

From: Quetta Gladiators (PSL) — To: Punjab Kings (IPL)

Replaced: Lockie Ferguson

Punjab Kings (PBKS) brought in New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson as a replacement for Lockie Ferguson, who was sidelined with a hamstring injury. Jamieson made the switch after a short run with Quetta Gladiators in PSL 2025, where he picked up 2 wickets at an economy rate of 9.00.

Kusal Mendis

From: Quetta Gladiators (PSL) — To: Gujarat Titans (IPL)

Replaced: Jos Buttler

The Sri Lankan wicketkeeper-batter Kusal Mendis is set to make his first IPL appearance with Gujarat Titans (GT). He is replacing Jos Buttler, who has been called up for national duty. He had a standout performance in PSL 2025 — where he scored 143 runs in just five innings at a strike rate of 168.23.
