Streaming platform Netflix faced a big outage in the US on Thursday night, leaving thousands unable to watch anything. Many users said they saw an error code E100 with the message, “This title is not available to watch instantly.”

Downdetector, a site that tracks service issues, received more than 75,000 reports. Most complaints came in after 9:30 p.m. ET. Around 85 percent of the users who reported problems got the same E100 error.

According to Netflix’s help page, this code usually shows up when there’s a problem with the device's data. It can happen on smart TVs, phones, or laptops. But since so many people got the same message at the same time, it seems like the issue was from Netflix’s side.

Frustrated fans flood social media as life comes to a standstill

As the outage hit, life seemed to pause for thousands who rely on Netflix to unwind. For many, their evening plans came crashing down without warning. Users rushed to social media to share their frustration. One wrote, “Of course Netflix is down when I want to watch something for once.” Another posted, “Netflix going down at the very end of my show is extremely rude.”

Many thought it was a personal problem at first. Someone said, “Oh thank goodness! I thought I hadn’t paid my @netflix bill. It’s down for all. #NetflixandPanic.”

Some were just looking for confirmation. “Reasons for keeping Twitter/X? So I have someplace to check if Netflix is also down for everyone else,” one user wrote.

Others made jokes to stay calm. “Netflix just crashed and burned in me watching anime...wth. Won't work on any device,” one person shared.

As of now, Netflix has not shared any statement about what caused the outage. Fans are still waiting for answers, while hoping the service comes back soon.
