Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter go OTT at Cannes for Homebound debut; fans unimpressed, call them ‘bride and groom’
Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter made their Cannes debut for Homebound, but their heavily stylized outfits drew mixed reactions online. Fans compared them to a bride and groom, with many feeling the looks didn’t suit the red carpet.

Bollywood actors Janhvi Kapoor, Ishaan Khatter, and the Homebound team made their red carpet debut at Cannes 2025, turning heads as they arrived in style ahead of the film’s much-anticipated premiere at the prestigious festival.
Joining them were co-star Vishal Jethwa, director Neeraj Ghaywan, and producer Karan Johar—all marking their first-ever appearance at Cannes, except for Ghaywan. The director returned to the spotlight nearly a decade after his acclaimed film Masaan was screened and awarded at the festival in 2015.
While the premiere was a proud moment for Indian cinema, not everyone was impressed with Janhvi and Ishaan on the fashion front. On Reddit, users asked, "Ye Cannes hai ya shaadi ka mandap??" implying that the outfits gave more “big fat Indian wedding” than film fest chic.
Janhvi Kapoor brings Sridevi-inspired elegance to Cannes debut
Janhvi Kapoor made her Cannes debut in a blush pink Tarun Tahiliani lehenga gown that reminded many of her late mother Sridevi. The outfit, made from real Banarasi tissue, featured a sculpted corset, dramatic pleated skirt, and hooded drape styled like a ghoonghat. Styled by Rhea Kapoor, she finished the look with pearls, fresh flowers, and nude-toned makeup.

The actress was joined by her boyfriend Shikhar Pahariya, sister Khushi Kapoor, and friend Orry, who all traveled to the French Riviera to support her at the premiere.
Ishaan Khatter keeps it sharp in Gaurav Gupta velvet
Fresh out of the success of his recently released Netflix series The Royals, Ishaan Khatter wore a maroon velvet Gaurav Gupta jacket with black trousers and sunglasses, bringing understated charm to the carpet.
He was seen helping Janhvi with her gown’s train, earning him praise online. The moment was more touching, given that the duo dated for a while after the release of the 2018 film Dhadak.

Reddit reacts to Janhvi and Ishaan's Cannes looks
As mentioned already, Reddit wasn’t too impressed with Janhvi and Ishaan on the fashion front. In a post titled “Ye Cannes hai ya shaadi ka mandap??” on the BollyBlindsNGossip subreddit, users shared their thoughts on the duo’s outfits, with many feeling they once again missed the mark on delivering a standout fashion moment.
One user wrote, “Ishaan dressed better in The Royals,” while another said, “She looks like Gopi Bahu.”
A third joked, “They really look like bride and groom — I don’t get why almost every Indian is dressing like a bahu or bride at Cannes.”
“She looks like a bride the next day after the wedding,” said one comment, while another added, “Reception mein Dulha Dulhan ki entry.”
“Rihanna dressed like this when she was here for the Ambani wedding,” one user quipped.
